You may well have seen from previous posts that I am a trustee of the Story of Christmas Appeal. I’ve been involved with the charity since its very first year: 4 decades ago I was a humble gofer!
Last week we held the 41st event – the culmination of a whole year’s work. And what a “culmination” in that we raised £630,000!
The money raised goes to selected charities, carefully chosen to support capital or construction projects for deprived children and the homeless in London and the South-East. These 8 charities include Centrepoint, Haven House, XLP, St Mungo’s. A full list of charitable projects is available here.
At the amazing carol concert in St. Georges, Hanover Square London W1, there was of course much singing for attendees, along with renditions by The Choir of New College Oxford. A terrific and varied list of guest readers included Dame Eileen Atkins, The Rt Hon Sir John Major, Tim Henman and also our recently appointed President, Ian Hislop whose numerous inputs during the evening caused much laughter.
It was a fabulous evening for all involved. And of course, the money raised will ensure that many others benefit substantially. What can be wrong with that?
Merry Christmas
Find a London Office won’t be sending Christmas Cards this year; instead we will be making a donation to the Story of Christmas appeal.
The office will close for Christmas from the end of play on Friday 21st December. We will re-open in the new year on Wednesday 2nd January. However, we will be monitoring emails and our live chat over the holidays and will of course respond to any urgent requests.
There will be another blog post published between Christmas and the New Year. However, we’d like to take the opportunity now to wish all our clients, subscribers and visitors a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
