Canary Wharf is by most standards a remarkable place. Regenerated from the derelict wastelands of the old London Docks some 30 years ago, Canary Wharf contrasts markedly to other, established areas of London. The glass and steel of skyscrapers is built on the footprint of the old docklands. This allows Canary Wharf to retain its connection both to the water and its heritage, whilst creating very interesting large, open spaces around the office buildings.
